THE MOTHER of 15-year-old Richard Kusi Yeboah, a kidney patient, is appealing to the public to come to the aid of her son who needs GH¢37,360 to pay for his haemodialysis treatment.

“The total cost for haemodialysis and drug management for one year is approximately  thirty seven thousand, three hundred and sixty Ghana Cedis (GH¢37,360),” a statement signed by Head of the Renal Unit at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Dr. Charlotte Osafo said.

Richard, who is a first year general arts student at Accra Academy, has been diagnosed with End-stage Kidney Disease (ESKD) and is scheduled to undergo haemodialysis to prepare him for a transplant.

His mother has since February, through the benevolence of an Accra-based television station, paid for his treatment which costs over $100 per dialysis treatment. She is now seeking the help of the general public to help her son continue with his treatment.

Dr. Osafo noted that the best option for Richards’s condition is a kidney transplant therefore he needs to look for a suitable donor before he can be worked up for a transplant. Before then he must undergo haemodialysis.

“The total cost for kidney transplant and immunosuppression is approximately forty thousand Ghana cedis, (GH¢40,000),” the statement noted.
