NEWLY APPOINTED Minister of Health and Member of Parliament (MP) for Nadowli West, Alban Sumana Bagbin has signed performance contracts with the Ghana Health Service (GHS) and three teaching hospitals.
The contracts, signed during the monthly health sector working group meeting at the ministry were to ensure high performance and service delivery from the participating health institutions.
“A new culture of punctuality, diligence and team spirit will henceforth be the guiding principles that govern the work of the Ministry of Health,” said Bagbin in a statement issued by the public relations unit of the ministry.
He said it was important for him to ensure that all the directors and heads of health departments sign the performance contract to guarantee full benefit from the taxes paid by Ghanaians.
The minister consequently advised all sector directors under his ministry to live up to their calling as caregivers by first of all, “staying healthy in order to reposition yourselves to practically deliver the operational vision of the ministry.”
The directors of the GHS and teaching hospitals who appended their signatures to their respective performance contracts assured the minister of their cooperation and committed themselves to reducing hospital deaths in priority areas such as maternal and child health.
Present at the meeting were representatives of UNICEF, USAID, European Union, WHO, UNFPA, UNAIDS, Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, GHS, Ministry of Health (MOH), World Food Programme (WFP), Christian Health Association of Ghana (CHAG), National Ambulance Service (NAS), the Pharmacy Council, Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons and the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.
