Ghanaian singer X Lor, who works in cybersecurity at GCB Bank, released his seven track debut EP Tornado on streaming platforms Friday, introducing his self styled ABL genre.
The project is now available on Spotify, Apple Music, Audiomack and YouTube. Across its seven songs, Tornado moves through love, forgiveness, loyalty and healing, themes the singer has built his catalog around since he began releasing music in 2018.
By day, X Lor works in the cybersecurity unit at GCB Bank PLC, a role he took on after studying database administration at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA). He has kept that job running alongside a music career built largely outside Ghana’s major label system.
The EP opens with “I Gotchu,” built around trust and reassurance, before the title track pairs romance with an ode to melanin. “By 7,” his breakout single with more than 100,000 streams, reflects on longing, while “They Nuh Fi Know” turns toward privacy and unspoken intimacy. “On My Mind” centers on loyalty and companionship, “Go Away” weighs self preservation against staying in a relationship, and closer “Till the End” affirms lasting commitment.
X Lor calls the sound behind these songs ABL, short for Angels Beyond Limitations, a blend of Afrobeats, highlife, R&B, soul and gospel he has spent years shaping into a distinct style. “ABL is a blend of genres,” he said.
His songwriting credits include work with Mya Sima, Naja and Whitnee Dee, along with vocal arrangement contributions for established Ghanaian acts Guru and Akan. He has also shared stages with KiDi, Mr Drew and Coco Vanilla. X Lor credited his executive manager, Richard Boahene, with helping shape Tornado from concept to release.
