The Ghana Stock Exchange (GSE) closed Tuesday’s trading session with both benchmark indices in decline, as thin volumes and broad price weakness pulled the market lower following Monday’s public holiday.
The GSE Composite Index (GSE-CI) fell 375.02 points to close at 15,316.66, retreating from 15,691.69 recorded at the previous session on March 19. The GSE Financial Stocks Index (GSE-FSI) dropped a steeper 436.91 points to settle at 9,407.32 from 9,844.23. Year-to-date, the GSE-CI has gained 0.75 percent while the GSE-FSI is up 1.02 percent since January 1. Total market capitalisation stood at GH₵284.82 billion at the close.
Trading activity was subdued, with 1,754,120 shares changing hands across the session for a combined turnover of GH₵8,103,202.93. Scancom PLC (MTNGH) dominated the day’s activity with 605,217 shares valued at GH₵3,935,884.02, closing at GH₵6.50 after a GH₵0.03 decline. Ecobank Transnational Inc. (ETI) was the next most traded, with 534,823 shares worth GH₵1,187,307.06, with its closing price falling GH₵0.23 to GH₵2.22. Enterprise Group PLC (EGL) added 40,285 shares at a value of GH₵488,385.02, closing marginally lower at GH₵12.11.
Among the day’s notable price movers, Fan Milk PLC (FML) recorded the sharpest single-stock decline, shedding GH₵1.53 to close at GH₵13.79. SIC Insurance Company PLC (SIC) fell GH₵0.45 to GH₵4.09, while Societe Generale Ghana PLC (SOGEGH) dropped GH₵0.87 to GH₵7.86. Ecobank Ghana PLC (EGH) declined GH₵5.38 to GH₵50.52. Cal Bank PLC (CAL) and Enterprise Group PLC each shed GH₵0.02. No stock recorded a gain on the day.
Benso Palm Plantation PLC (BOPP) remained among the highest-priced equities on the board, holding firm at GH₵100.00, while Standard Chartered Bank Ghana PLC (SCB) was unchanged at GH₵79.25 and TotalEnergies Marketing Ghana PLC (TOTAL) closed flat at GH₵39.80. Atlantic Lithium Ltd (ALLGH) traded 4,786 shares worth GH₵31,204.72, unchanged at GH₵6.52. On the Ghana Alternative Market (GAX), no trades were recorded.
The session followed a one-day market closure on Monday, March 23, due to a public holiday. Wednesday’s session will be the next opportunity for the market to find direction.
