‘Vote PPP for peace’

The Progressive People’s Party (PPP) has condemned, in no uncertain terms, the inflammatory comments made by the bailed NPP Member of Parliament for Assin-North, Hon. Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, on one side and NDC parliamentary candidate of Odododiodio, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, on the other, and urged all Ghanaians not to vote any of the two political parties in the December 7 polls.

In a statement signed at the weekend in Accra and issued by its Research Director, Victoria Aligboh Armah, the PPP argued that “a vote for the NDC in December 7 polls is a vote for unprecedented mediocrity and lack of peace as the Kennedy Agyapong charged NPP will not sit to watch another defeat, and the power drunk NDC will also not relinquish power haven been drunk by it.”

The party added that “a vote for the NPP is also a vote for political unrest, tribalism, partisanship and divisions as commanded by the ‘hero’ Kennedy Agyapong and hailed parochially by the NPP supporters and defended hypocritically and diplomatically by the leadership.”

The statement described the recent skirmishes that have bedeviled the on-going national biometric voter registration exercise, as ‘unacceptable” warning President John Evans Atta Mills against his ‘unconcerned attitude’ towards the acts of certain appointees of his government.

It advised that “As a country, we should be guided by the woes of our neighboring countries and advise ourselves on what is best for us,” adding that “shall we wallow in pain and agony for making a wrong choice on December 7, or shall we make the right choice instead and enjoy Prosperity in Peace forever?”

The statement cited a memory excursion of countries like Somalia, Chad, Liberia and Sierra Leone which, according to the statement “will make us appreciate peace.”

“We have nowhere to run to, our neighbours are still reforming after war, they can’t accommodate us! Ghanaians, Awake!”

“A vote for the PPP is a vote for peace, a vote for inclusiveness, a vote for development with a sense of urgency,” the statement posited.

It added that a vote for PPP is “a vote for the prosperity of all Ghanaians, a vote for sanity on our airwaves and indeed a victory for all Ghanaians.”

The statement therefore called on all well meaning Ghanaians who are appreciative of the nation’s peace and who believe we have nowhere to run to in times of chaos, to join the PPP and ensure that Ghana remains the beacon of hope that it has always been on the continent and the immaculate example of peace and democratic maturity.
