Prove your worth, Kwasi Appiah

1

MANY Ghanaian football followers who have cried for so long for a local coach to head the Black Stars were smiling barely a week ago after the decision taken by the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to appoint Kwasi Appiah as the head coach of the Ghana national team.

THIS decision we believe, is a decision that would among others save Ghana from some unnecessary expenditure.

IT is an obvious fact that these foreign coaches have done little to further the team’s trophy chances talk-less business profits.

TODAY welcomes the appointment of Kwasi Appiah, the 35th coach of the Stars, whom we believe has a lot up his sleeves.

WE believe if no one at all deserves this position, it shouldn’t be this humble chap who has served his due in Ghana football; nothing can be taken away from him.

AS a player, he was part of the great Kotoko team that won the Africa Club Championship cup in 1983; he has rendered service to country as a player for the Black Stars for more than 10 years, starting in 1981.

INFACT, he was the immediate captain before Abedi Pele in 1992.

AS a coach he has been Assistant Coach since 2008 and part of the Black Stars technical team at the 2010 FIFA World cup in South Africa.

KWASI Appiah being a Ghanaian would be the best man to understand what his country needs and wants done in the Stars camp.

IT is gratifying to note that he has set the ball rolling by venturing to hold talks with Kelvin Prince Boateng, Michael Essien and the striker Asamoah Gyan to return to the team.

A move, we believe, would see much more hope, excitement and belief in the Black Stars, which might have been lost after the last nations cup fiasco.

THE new coach has also announced the reshuffling of some of the technical men in the team to help develop the black Stars to be able to win trophies.

LET all Ghanaians put their hands to the wheel and see the Stars grow from strength to strength.

ALL this man needs is the needed support, encouragement and most importantly patience from the football public to see the needed ends achieved.

WHO says it would be easy and who says it would be seen within a twinkle of an eye?; Time, will definitely tell!

BRAVO Kwasi Appiah and well done GFA, but as you are hailed today, remember it is up you to prove that black man is capable of managing his own affairs.

THE million dollar question to ask is should the appointment of a Ghanaian coach signal the end to expatriate coaches for Ghana?
