An Uber driver who masterminded a premeditated robbery targeting a 75-year-old traditional priestess in the Ashanti Region has been sentenced to 25 years in prison, with his three accomplices each handed 20-year terms by the Nsuta Circuit Court.
The ringleader, 33-year-old Kofi Adu, also known as K2, pleaded guilty to robbery charges before presiding judge His Lordship Simon Nketia Gagah. His co-accused, Owusu Patrick, 21; Francis Obeng, also known as Amani, 22; and Karim Nurudeen, alias Kusheshe, received their sentences on the same charges.
Prosecutors told the court the group carried out a calculated attack on traditional priestess Nana Afua Konadu at her shrine near Kumawu on December 31, 2025. According to the prosecution, the operation was set up months earlier when one of the suspects visited the shrine posing as a client seeking spiritual protection for gold he claimed to possess, using the visit to gain the victim’s trust and map out the premises.
On the night of the attack, a group of masked men armed with machetes stormed the shrine, assaulted the priestess and forced her to lead them through multiple rooms before making off with more than GH¢65,000 in cash, mobile phones, and other valuables.
The victim subsequently identified two of the attackers, including the ringleader, triggering a police investigation. A targeted operation conducted between April 24 and April 27 led to the arrest of the four suspects across several communities in the Ashanti Region. Police recovered a smock containing GH¢45,000 believed to belong to the victim, along with mobile phones and a vehicle, from the ringleader at the time of his arrest.
A fifth suspect remains at large, and investigators say the case remains open.
