Nigerian actress-turned-evangelist Tonto Dikeh has publicly detailed a troubled chapter of her past during a gospel ministration in Tanzania, describing her journey from what she called spiritual darkness to a life of faith.
Speaking to a congregation in Tanzania, Dikeh reflected on a period of confusion in her life when her search for direction led her into what she now deeply regrets. “In the midst of trying to navigate life, I’ve dipped my hands in so much filth and dirt. I’ve joined a cult, I’ve worked with a demon so hard. I know who he is, and I know that he doesn’t have anything for me anymore. Today God said, ‘I’ll take you back and clean you up. I’ll put you on altars to preach my gospel,'” she said.
Dikeh said she often questioned why she had been chosen for such a transformation. “I keep asking myself sometimes, God, why me? And all I hear is, why not you?” she said, adding that the answer she has received is a calling to share her faith boldly.
She described herself as living proof of divine mercy. “I am the product of grace, the product of His love, the product of mercy,” she said. “Mercy is not what God does, but mercy is who my Saviour is.”
Dikeh has urged the public to address her as Evangelist Tonto Dikeh rather than by her former title “King,” a change she said came in obedience to her faith. Her testimony drew emotional reactions from worshippers at the event.
The public declaration has also reignited a dispute with fellow actress Doris Ogala, who challenged Dikeh to go further and fully disclose all her past actions, questioning the sincerity of her conversion.
