The suspects leaving the court yesterday
Three security operatives have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for possessing narcotic substances without lawful authority.
The accused persons are Lance Corporals Isaac Okine, Dennis Maakogor Pwamang of the Bole District Police and Felix Bani, a Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) Officer also stationed at Bole in the Northern Region, alongside Yakubu Eddisah, unemployed.
Eddisah was said to have been in possession of 38 wrappers of a rocky substance and 32 wrappers of a powdery substance suspected to be cocaine.
Okine, Maakogor Pwamang and Bani are also charged with the supply of the substances, suspected to be cocaine, without lawful authority.
Prosecuting, DSP Aidan Dery told the court presided over by Francis Obiri that the complainants, who were police officers from the Wa- Bamboi Police Highway team, on February 13 this year had a tip-off that Eddisah was selling narcotic drugs at Banda-Nkwanta, a mining community near Bole.
He said the patrol team proceeded to the location where he was arrested with 38 wrappers of the rocky substance and 32 powdery substances, and a quantity of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis.
DSP Dery stated that during investigations, Eddisah claimed ownership of the suspected narcotic drug and denied knowledge of the suspected cannabis.
According to the prosecution, Eddisah mentioned Okine, Maakogor Pwamang and Bani as his suppliers.
Eddisah mentioned further that the three security operatives had arrested some drug peddlers at Bole in an operation during which they retrieved the suspected narcotic drugs.
Eddisah claimed that the officers collected GH?1000 from the dealers, set them free and handed some of the substances to him as his share of the booty.
DSP Dery said upon their arrest, Okine, Maakogor Pwamang and Bani denied the offence in their caution statements.
However, Mr. Obiri yesterday rejected the bail application by counsel for the four accused persons and accordingly remanded them into police custody to reappear on March 3.
