Enyimba FC midfielder Kingsley Sokari has expressed his zeal to compete for a place in the Super Eagles squad to battle Congo in Pointe Noire.
Sokari who starred in Nigeria’s team’s 1-0 win over Ghana’s U23 team at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium last Friday was given a late invitation for the Super Eagles’ remaining African Cup of Nations games.
“I’m so happy and very excited. We have so many Nigerians whose biggest dream is to be invited to the Super Eagles. It’s is a call I’ve longed for and fully ready to prove myself.”
“I’ve really been working hard at club level and happy about my personal improvement. It’s the dream of many players at home and abroad to play in the colours of Super Eagles. So, achieving this is a big plus to my career.
“I’m very excited witnessing this moment in my football career. As much as I’m happy, I cannot but give great kudos to the big boss (Coach Stephen Keshi) who saw me good enough and deserving of this great chance,”
On his exciting displaying against Ghana which earned him the late call-up to Super Eagles, he credited them to the motivation he got from national team handlers.
“I must admit I never expected the opportunity, but I’m happy it is finally here with credits to assistant coaches – Daniel Amokachi, Hyandonou Valere and Ike Shorunmu.
“They have me great encouragement ahead of the Ghana game last week. I was only doing my best as a player in that friendly and surprise it was even good enough to earn me a call-up.
“We had a winning strategy for Ghana. We told ourselves we can?t afford to lose on our home soil in front of our teeming home fans. Even in the presence of the President and governor of Akwa Ibom in first international game in the beautiful Uyo stadium.
“We arrived in Uyo on Monday, well take care of and had much time training for the game. The coaches really did a great job and we players were determined to prove ourselves too. I’m happy we did achieve it,” he concluded.
