In addition to the items, GGF also presented a cash of GH? 500.00 to officials of TV3 network to support a fund being raised by the Television network in reaching out to the victims of the June 3 flood and fire disaster.

Dr Abdulai Darimani, Acting Director of the Institute of Local Government Studies, and a member of GGF, who made the presentation, said it was part of the social responsibilities of the NGO to respond to the needs of the less privileged in the society especially women.

He said the donation formed part of a national donation exercise expected to be carried out by GGF in the Northern, Brong Ahafo, Upper East and Upper West regions in regards to the conditions of women and the problems of floods.

?We have done this since 2004, but this particular exercise taking place in these two places today, is the first ever showing concern for persons particularly women who suffered the floods

?This is also to contribute to the on-going awareness creation as a strategy towards disaster prevention, mitigation and management,? he said.

Dr Darimani added that the donation was also a way GGF was fulfilling its commitment to support the poor, needy and socially marginalised groups in the society.

?There is the need to make the less affected feel at home and always know that people care for them wherever they find themselves.?

He therefore called on other benevolent individuals and organisations to collectively collaborate and bring the challenges that face individuals especially women to an end saying: ?A little donation to a woman is a triple donation to their normal life,? he said.

Dr Darimani also advised the public to protect the environment as government alone could not fulfill that role.

Madam Emelia Okailey Adjei, a beneficiary, receiving the items, thanked GGF for the support and appealed to other groups to emulate the kind gesture.

She noted that the donation was good and it would help the beneficiaries to meet their needs.

GGF is a charity organisation registered under the laws of United States and support?s community-based groups and organisations including women associations and socially marginalised groups to protect their interest and the environment.
