Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the running mate for Ghana’s New Patriotic Party (NPP), has asserted that positions of power come with a responsibility to serve the community rather than seeking personal gain.
In a statement made during a visit to the Paramount Chief of the New Juaben Traditional Area, Nana Kwadwo Yeboah Gyamfi, Dr Prempeh emphasized that royalty represents a duty to lead with humility and integrity. He and NPP flagbearer Dr Mahamudu Bawumia hold royal titles and have pledged to serve the Ghanaian people if elected.
“Royalty is not merely a title but a call to serve. It is our responsibility to guide and assist our people with dedication,” Dr. Prempeh said on July 25, 2024.
Dr. Prempeh, known as Napo, assured traditional leaders that chieftaincy and religious institutions would be recognized as vital partners in governance under a potential NPP administration. He emphasized the importance of these institutions in contributing to the nation’s development.
Nana Kwadwo Yeboah Gyamfi welcomed Dr. Prempeh and his delegation and praised his dedication to public service, particularly in his roles as Minister of Education and Minister of Energy. The Paramount Chief expressed confidence in Dr. Prempeh and Dr. Bawumia’s potential success and prayed for their continued diligence in service.
The traditional leaders urged Dr. Prempeh to address illegal mining, known as galamsey, which has severely impacted local water bodies. They also called for creating employment opportunities for the youth and completing ongoing government projects.
Key NPP figures, including National Organizer Henry Nana Boakye, Eastern Regional Minister Seth Acheampong, and other regional executives, accompanied Dr Prempeh.
