A 30-year-old robbery suspect has died in the Savannah Region after reportedly leaping from the rear of a moving police vehicle in what officers describe as an attempted escape.

The deceased, identified as Mumin Kresi, was arrested on March 23, 2026, at Daboya through an intelligence-led operation. Police say he was lured out of a hideout before being taken into custody and transported to Damongo to assist with investigations.

In the early hours following his arrest, officers were escorting Kresi back to his residence at Yerezori to assist in recovering items linked to the robberies when he allegedly jumped from the vehicle. He did not survive.

During interrogation, Kresi had reportedly admitted involvement in a series of robbery activities and disclosed the locations of weapons and stolen property. He told investigators that one of the pistols used in the operations was concealed at his Yerezori residence. A second weapon, along with stolen cash and mobile phones, was said to be in the possession of an accomplice identified only as Berra, who remains at large.

Police say investigations are continuing to establish the full circumstances of both the escape attempt and the suspect’s death. The search for Berra and the recovery of the outstanding weapons and stolen items is ongoing.
