Ghana’s Ministry of Sports and Recreation has rejected claims that it sponsored individuals to travel to Germany for the Black Stars’ international friendlies, describing a viral social media video circulating online as false and misleading.
In a statement issued on Sunday, March 29, 2026, the Ministry said footage showing Sports and Recreation Minister Kofi Adams interacting with a group of people at an airport had been deliberately misrepresented. The Ministry explained that the individuals seen in the video are not known to the Minister, and that he simply encountered them briefly in the departure tunnel while boarding his flight.
The Ministry stressed that the interaction was entirely incidental and bore no connection to any official travel arrangement or sponsorship.
It further confirmed that no funds, whether from its own budget or through corporate sponsorship, had been committed toward the two international friendly matches, and that no arrangements of any kind had been made to support fan travel or participation.
The Ministry said the Minister travelled to Germany alone on official duty, with the purpose of engaging directly with the Black Stars and the technical team led by head coach Otto Addo ahead of the fixtures.
The clarification comes as Ghana prepares for their friendly against Germany in Stuttgart on Monday, following a 5-1 defeat to Austria in Vienna on Friday, March 27, a result that exposed defensive concerns ahead of the 2026 World Cup.
The Ministry urged the public to disregard what it called misleading narratives, reaffirming its commitment to transparency and the responsible use of public resources.
