The commissioner of Insurance, Mrs. Nyamikeh Kyiamah, has encouraged insurers to focus on providing quality customer service to policyholders instead of concentrating on price.

She said the provision of quality customer service would help give insurance companies a competitive edge in the market place.

According to the commissioner, rapid changes in the demands of policyholders, greater customer awareness of insurance product, technological improvements, together with diversification of distribution channels call for a paradigm shift in the working practices of insurance companies.

“Insurance companies should therefore improve on the development of the customer service skills of its employees and build employee competence, confidence and professionalism on a continuous and sustainable basis,” she said.

Mrs. Kyiamah gave this advice to insurers when she addressed a gathering at the launch of the 25th Anniversary celebration of GLICO Life Insurance Company Limited.

She said as the insurance industry continued to expand, insurance companies should also develop innovative strategies especially in the area of technology and customer requirement as it would enable employees to give accurate and effective advice and assistance to policyholders.

“As part of the quality customer framework, insurance companies should have effective, compliant handling mechanism and provide speedy and fair claims settlements,” she said.

Mrs. Kyiamah therefore congratulated GLICO Life Insurance Company Limited for its laudable achievements in the past 25 years adding, “NIC is very much interested in the stability and progress of insurance companies in the country.”

Mr. Kwame Achampong-Kyei, executive chairman and founder of GLICO Group, said the company which started in 1987 had grown steadily to become synonymous with excellence and a household name in the country with its customer base enlarging year after year.

He said the company’s steady growth and expansion were underscored by its nationwide network of branches and agency offices, strong team of management, highly skilled and well trained staff and sales executives who used the company’s infrastructure and equipment to deliver quality services to its numerous clients.

According to him, the company’s high quality products coupled with astute management, had built a strong financial base and continue to post remarkable financial results year by year.

“The company’s premium income continues to increase and its asset base also keeps enlarging,” he said.

Achampong-Kyei further noted that apart from the company recording success in its business, it had dutifully contributed its quota to the development of the nation through the creation of employment and its commitment to social responsibility in the areas of sports, education, health, social welfare and environment protection.

He later charged his staff not to relent on their achievement but work harder to meet the keen competition in the insurance sector.
