The torched Nissan pickup car

ONE OF the personalities eyeing the Bolgatanga constituency seat on the ticket of the People’s National Convention (PNC), David Apasera has had his Nissan pickup torched by persons suspected to have been hired by his political opponent within the same party.

According to him, although the matter has been reported to police, he is suspecting one of his opponents in the same party.

He told DAILY GUIDE soon after the incident: “I went to the constituency on the evening of 1st April 2012. On 2nd April I went around town to greet some people. I got back home and had discussions with my brothers and went to bed at about 11.30pm. At about 2.30am I was awakened by a loud blast. When I came out my car was in flames. I called out the boys and together with the villagers the fire was put out.”

He said he believes it is arson and that one of the men who intends challenging him in the constituency is behind it adding the said man has subjected him and the entire constituency to all sorts of assaults.

The suspect he went on has organized a group of thugs since the incident to disrupt a meeting he and his supporters were holding, a disruption which he said had happened earlier and in which the police had to intervene.

Mr. Apasera said he had earlier been warned by supporters of his opponents that they would teach him a lesson by making it difficult for him to move about.

He expressed dismay that although the leadership of the party knows the source of the trouble, it has done little or nothing to bring the situation under control.

A motorbike he bought for one of his supporters was also set on fire, he said.
