French automaker Peugeot used the 2026 Beijing International Auto Show on April 24 to debut two concept cars that offer the clearest preview yet of its next generation of large electric vehicles, with China positioned as the engine of that transformation.
The two main reveals were the Peugeot Concept 6, which previews the brand’s vision for future large sedans, and the Concept 8, which points toward a potential flagship electric sport utility vehicle sitting above the current 5008 in the lineup.
The Concept 6 blends the elegance of a conventional sedan with the dynamism of a shooting brake, and is widely seen as a possible successor to the 508, which went out of production in 2024. The Concept 8 takes a different approach, projecting confidence through strong proportions, clean surfaces, and visible sensor integration hinting at advanced driver assistance capabilities.
Peugeot Chief Executive Officer Alain Favey said at the event that China is a major driver of the brand’s global transformation, particularly in electrification, innovation and brand elevation.
The production vehicles these concepts point toward are intended for the Chinese market but will also be exported globally as part of Peugeot’s international growth plan. They will be manufactured by its partner Dongfeng at its Wuhan plant.
Peugeot also displayed its Polygon concept at the show, featuring steer-by-wire technology with a flexible adjustable steering wheel that carries no mechanical connection to the wheels. The company said this system will be gradually introduced into production models from 2027.
Peugeot’s return to Beijing signals more than a product reveal. It reflects a broader industry shift in which automakers increasingly rely on China for both scale and cutting-edge technology.
