NPP Is Stabbing Itself At The Back

This was the message sent to me by one woman we all respect on the political landscape. I have not been myself the whole of today so wasn?t in the mood to reply her message but she sent me another message which raised me from my sluggishness to do the normal business.

My position is, then NPP is stabbing itself at the back because of a position taken by some hawks within, that, rejecting Nana Akufo-Addo would be interpreted to mean NDC winning the Akufo-Addo issue or better put, succumbing to pressure from the NDC to change Akufo-Addo. In our local parlance I will put it as ?over targeting the fly leading to hitting your already aching injury? As we speak, the number of persons who have gone for nomination forms to contest for the flagbearership position confirms three things.

1. Akufo-Addo has lost his grips over the party and people are now getting fed up with his negative control with the party.

3. That people were gagged from stating their real position on the petition issue. The number of people vying for the flagbearership position attests to the fact that, many persons who followed Akufo-Addo to the supreme court, did so because of party solidarity and fear of internal upheaval but not because their conscience supported their actions. It is highly unreasonable to contest somebody you believe won the elections but was cheated. The most reasonable decision would have been outright support to repeat the dose. These contestants knew that Akufo-Addo failed them but pretentiously followed him to court as sign of NPP solidarity.

4. That the Akufo-Addo phobia in the NPP is dying out at a faster rate. People are beginning to think real on the issue of who must lead the NPP. The rate at which the anti Akufo-Addo patriots is growing confirms this position. Apart from the normal noise on our radio stations, the situation on the ground seems to favor the change policy.

The other fact is, after their elections to elect their executives, readers will remember I wrote an article stating that, the Akufo-Addo group will use all kinds of unconventional mechanisms to render the news executives ineffective because of the Kufuor tag. The will establish their pseudo executive outfit to challenge every decision from the headquarters. I think I have been vindicated.

Today we are witnessing something unprecedented in the annals of NPP contemporary political history which is, gross disrespect of the executive and penchant to disobey executive fiats and orders. This is going to deepen the crisis in the party and I will advise Kwabena Agyepong and his group to stand firm and clear all such pestilence if it will mean losing the coming elections because, if they should impossibly come into government in this state, the current executives will definitely suffer the Akufo-Addo wrath just like what happened to Esseku. Their toil will come to nothing and that never to be government would be operated from the Akufo-Addo stables.

Like Rawlings once said, it is at times good to lose an election, it gives your space and time and genuine platform to consolidate your pillars and this is what I will recommend to Kwabena and his group. Truth cannot be buried so surely, their good intentions will one day sweep through the stables to bring the party to its good old days. It is a difficult decision to take but from deep strategic point, the party cannot perform in government in this divisive state, technically, the situation will get worse in government. Knowing Kwabena, I don?t think he will ever cherish an undisciplined regime with lot of factions.

The last point is, instead of facing the problems with the right tools, they have strategically decided using the current economic challenges and certain trivialities to while away time forgetting that the more they abrasively attack the NDC, the more proactive the NDC becomes leaving them to swim in their confusion.

I saw these problems coming when Wontumi started his aggressive politicking. I told friends that the NPP is rearing a baby snake in their chamber and soon, it will be filling with the natural poison to finish them. It is always dangerous allowing an individual to exert some kind of unbridled authority over a political party and trust me, Wontumi will become a huge albatross on the new administration is he is not made to operate through the party?s laid down principles.

I hope my lady politician will take this advise to her colleagues, yes I tell them these things whenever we meet as friends but thinking through them is the matter.

You see, the NDC stands the chance of leading this nation for many years if the position themselves well and also adhere strictly to the principles upon which the party was established. Leadership crisis has been the bane of the NPP and its forebearers since the UGCC days leading to the Nkrumah separation, it was so during the Busia time and has been the status quo since 1992,remember at a point Akufo-Addo supported Alhassan financially to contest Kufuor. And look at how Adu Boahene used tactical means to kill the Kufour dream which didn?t materialize. These are things which have natural holds over the party and not going to dies today, it is only appropriate the NDC position itself properly by getting suitable materials fixed at its executive position to instil some dynamism into their operations.
