National Security Halts Chief’s Installation

THE BRONG Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs has postponed indefinitely the planned induction ceremony of the Tuobodom Paramount Chief and two others into the House following an advice by the National Security Coordinator.

The National Security Coordinator in a report of the security situation at Tuobodom, which was addressed to the Brong Ahafo Regional Security Council (REGSEC) dated 5th March, 2012, said “In view of the fragile security situation in the area, the impending induction ceremony by the Brong Ahafo Regional House of Chiefs be deferred pending a review of the security situation by the National Security Council.”

DAILY GUIDE is reliably informed that there are a team of security personnel at Tuobodom monitoring the security situation there.

The House has twice postponed the intended swearing-in and induction ceremony of the three chiefs, namely Nana Asare Baffour II, Omanhene of Tuobodom traditional area, Nana Kwaku Yiadom Boakye, Omanhene of Tanoso traditional area and Nana Oduro Boama, Omanhene of Tanoboase traditional area.

The induction ceremony was first scheduled for March 8 but was postponed to March 13, and has now been deferred indefinitely.

The three, who were divisional chiefs, were elevated to paramount chiefs by the occupant of the Golden Stool in 1996. However, it took the intervention of the court to have their names entered into the National Register of Chiefs.

Prior to the aborted induction on March 8, the three chiefs wrote to the REGSEC requesting for police protection and also raised some security concerns in their respective traditional areas in connection with the said event.

The said letter, signed by the Secretary to the Tuobodom Traditional Council, S.A Boahen, alleged that the Akyempemhene of Tuobodom, who also “falsely” claims to be the Tuobodomhene and his people, “are amassing and stockpiling arms and ammunitions at Tuobodom in readiness to deploy their forces to use and force and intimidation to suppress and frighten us from attending the ceremony.

“As we rightly suspected, our opponents, we are reliably informed, are making frantic efforts to scuttle the said swearing in ceremony by ensuring that they ignite confusion, trouble and anarchy at Tuobodom during the days leading to the occasion of the ceremony in Sunyani,” it further mentioned.

They therefore called on the REGSEC, the Techiman Municipal Security Committee and all relevant agencies of state to act swiftly to diffuse any attempt by their opponents to foment trouble and cause anarchy at Tuobodom.
