Lauren Davidson, an economist at the Namibia Chamber of Mines, who is in the organizing committee said the conference will provide a platform for the delegates to discuss alternative energy sources.

She also said the energy sector is among those that are under-funded hence the need to raise awareness about the possible energy crisis.

“The region is experiencing major power shortages because of increased demand and stagnant supply growth in the past three decades,” Davidson said Thursday.

Although Namibia is yet to be hit hard by the energy shortages, countries such as Zimbabwe, South Africa and Zambia which supply power to Namibia are struggling.

There are fears that once the power purchase agreements which Namibia has with Zimbabwe, South and Zambia end, the country will be hit hard by energy crisis. Enditem
