Pedestrians of the N1 Highway which stretches from the Tetteh-Quarshie roundabout to Mallam junction are pleading with the Ghana Highway Authority to make provisions to curb the high rate of accidents on the highway.
The highway which was commissioned on Wednesday, February 15 has witnessed scores of accident due to what pedestrians call ?the unfinished business of the road.?
An intermittent trip from Tetteh-Quarshie roundabout to Mallam junction during lunch time on Saturday reveals that though the road is a motorway, services like overheads, bus stops and crossings were not constructed at vantage points to ease carnages.
Areas along the highway [including Lapaz, Nyamekye, Hong Kong, Baah-Yard, and Dimples] either have no overheads for crossing or are about 250 metres away from the stops even if there is.
Lapaz, one of the busy areas along the highway [arguably due to the brisk trading activities] is noted for the high rate of accidents since its opening to traffic as a large number of people crosses that end of the road anytime.
A chit-chat with some traders in Lapaz reveals that at least one person is knocked by a car every 48hours.
The highway authority and other stakeholders are humbly called upon to consider constructing overheads, stops and other crossings at vantage points as a measure to reduce accidents on the road.
