As part of efforts to improve network quality, MTN Ghana has commissioned its third ultra-modern switch site at Tetteh Quarshie in Accra.
In 2010, MTN commissioned the first switch and data centre at Sakaman, a suburb of Accra and in the following year it commissioned another facility at Kaase in the Ashanti region.
Michael Ikpoki, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN, in a speech read on his behalf, noted that “these facilities have been constructed to provide MTN with the most advanced switching and data facilities required to provide protection and future expansion of the network whilst maintaining the best network quality.”
He noted that the entire infrastructure signified MTN’s commitment to delight its customers by providing reliable network quality services and coverage in the country.
He added that while MTN Ghana had invested over $ 1.2 million into its operations, the entire Group had committed over $100 million into Africa’s largest capacity submarine fibre optic cable.
Mr. Ikpoki noted that despite the company’s achievements, it continues to face challenges such as “high incidence of fibre cuts caused primarily by road construction crews, accidents, acts of nature and vandalism, cell site roll out challenges and power supply challenges.”
He acknowledged that MTN was aware of the inconvenience and effect these network challenges have on its customers and assured that several strategies were being put in place to mitigate these challenges.
“We wish to assure all our valued subscribers that providing quality mobile voice and data services is of prime importance to MTN, and we will continue to make the right investments in advanced technologies to ensure that we provide Ghanaians with the best of services,” Mr. Ikpoki emphasized.
