Officials at the Presidency, on Monday held a memorial service for the late Mr Paul Victor Obeng, Senior Advisor to the President,
The late PV Obeng, 67, who was also Chairman of the National Development Planning Commission, reportedly died on Saturday from a heart attack while driving on the spintex road.
The solemn service, which took place at the main auditorium of the seat of government, took the form of scripture readings, intercessory prayers, hymnals, and tributes.
It was attended by President John Mahama, the Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani, his deputy, Valery Sawyer, some Ministers of State, National Security Advisor, William Aboah, Secretary to the Cabinet, Roger Angsomwine, Executive Secretary to the President, Dr Raymond Atuguba, Presidential Staffers and the security.
In an emotional eulogy, the Reverend Father Andrew Campbell of the Christ the King Parish, extolled the virtues of the late PV Obeng, describing him as an extremely witty and intelligent man who could take on any subject.
?I thank God for the gift of his life,? said Rev Fr Campbell, who said he became associated with the late statesman during his stint at the Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tema, where the deceased worshipped.
He said the late PV Obeng was compassionate to the poor and the needy in society, recalling that he sponsored many students through school, and was also generous in supporting several church projects.
Rev. Campbell added that ?he was somebody we all loved dearly; he was a great statesman and family man, he was very approachable; his life was people-centred.?
He expressed appreciation to God for the gift of PV?s life, admonishing the living to ?reflect on their own lives and be always ready, because we do not know when God is going to call us.?
?Don?t take life for granted, because all of us are going to go one day,? he stressed and prayed that God would grant the deceased eternal peace, happiness and rest.
The death of PV Obeng, a mechanical engineer, politician and public servant par excellence, continues to send shock waves both in the corridors of power, the political landscape, academia, the inky fraternity, industry players and other strata of Ghanaian society.
A book of condolence has since been opened in memory of the late PV Obeng at his residence at Community Two in Tema, , which has witnessed an outpouring of sympathisers, associates, friends, party hierarchy and government officials. GNA
