THREE PERSONS who allegedly attacked a police officer attached to the Nima Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) ? who was discharging his duties at the Nima market intersection ? have been remanded into police custody by an Accra Circuit Court.
They were remanded on June 10, 2014, to reappear on June 23, 2014.
The suspects are Omar Mas Awudu, 38-year-old station master at Nima, Adam Wudu, 28 and Abubarkar Wudu, 23.
The victim, Corporal George Darko, allegedly received severe beatings from the three on June 9, 2014, after confronting them over unlawful parking of their vehicle ? in the middle of the road.
The victim sustained injuries in the face, hands and other parts of the body.
Confirming the assault to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Nuhu Jango, the Nima Divisional Police
Commander, said the police realized that there was always heavy vehicular traffic on the Nima road, especially at the Nima intersection.
?As part of our decongestion strategies, we decided to deploy personnel to those areas to check traffic flow.
?Around 9:00 am last Monday, while Corporal Darko, together with Mubarak Sulemana, a Community Policing personnel, were busily working, they realized that there was severe vehicular traffic at the intersection and moved forward to find out what was amiss.
?The police officer then detected that the three accused persons had parked their vehicle in the middle of the road and were discharging their goods.
?When he confronted them, they got infuriated, pounced on him, brutally assaulted him and tore his uniform,? Chief Superintendent Nuhu Jango intimated.
The community policing personnel, who attempted to save the policeman, was also severely beaten, according to the police chief.
The police, he said, called for reinforcement and apprehended the suspects.
