The Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN), on Wednesday, pledged a good outing for the country’s teams at the ongoing Africa Challenge Trophy in Ghana.

Musa Hamza, the HFN’s Technical Director, said in Accra that the players were in top shape to win laurels for the country at the event.

“They look set to crown their efforts with outstanding performances and to improve on their silver medal record at the 2010 edition held in Cote d’Ivoire,” he said.

Hamza said both the male and female teams had so far played three matches in each category at the competition, which began on May 27, and won all.

According to the HFN official, the female team defeated their Ghanaian counterparts 33-16, in the opening match on May 28, while Nigeria’s male team also triumphed 28-13 over Cote d’Ivoire.

On May 29, Nigeria’s male team thrashed Liberia 33-11, while the female team beat Togo 28-16.

The technical director expressed satisfaction with the teams’ performances so far at the tournament, attributing the impressive results to determination and hard work.

“I am impressed with their performances because they are passionate and have the desire to excel and make the country proud, which is an evidence of dedication at the preparation stages,” he said.
