A Nsuta Circuit Court in the Sekyere Central District of the Ashanti Region on Tuesday, May 13, remanded herdsman Musah Yakubu, 30, into police custody over the alleged theft of 65 cattle valued at tens of thousands of cedis.

Presiding judge His Lordship Simon Nketiah Gagah ordered Yakubu, a resident of Atebubu in the Bono East Region, held pending further investigations. Three other suspects, identified as Ali, Awudu and Haruna, remain at large.

The complainant, Karim Abdulai, a 42-year-old cattle farmer based at Asuoso along the Offinso-Akomadan highway, owns three kraals housing 65 cattle each and employs herdsmen to manage the animals at a ranch in Nkwankwaa.

Prosecution told the court that on May 8, suspect Haruna, a former employee of Abdulai, left for grazing at 6:00 am with one batch of cattle and never returned. After a tip from an informant named Alhassan, the complainant and community members tracked footprints into nearby bush and located the herd, with suspects resting at a distance, one reportedly armed with a single-barreled gun.

The complainant reported the situation to the Sekyedumase Police Station, and officers returned with him to the scene where Yakubu was arrested. The remaining suspects fled.

Police recovered 60 of the 65 cattle. The five missing animals, comprising three bulls at GHC14,000 each and two cows at GHC13,000 each, represent an estimated loss of GHC68,000.

The court did not take Yakubu’s plea due to ongoing investigations. The case has been adjourned to June 3, 2026.
