As the race for the 2015 general elections gathers momentum, some pro democracy pressure groups under the aegis of the Coalition of Democrats (CoD) Delta State has joined the clamour for the election of women as governor in the country come 2015. The Coalition through its spokesman Comrade Barr. Nixon Okoro said the election of female governors across the six geopolitical zones will give the women a sense of belonging considering the significant roles and successes recorded by women in the past and more especially under the present administration stressing the need to tap from the leadership potentials of the womenfolk in our quest for nation building.
The meeting of the Coalition of Democrats (CoD) which had in attendance mainly Pro PDP groups notably ?PDP Grassroots Transformation Network? ?Niger Delta Youth Vanguard for Good Governance? as well as the ?Goodluck Good Governance Group? said women must be well encouraged to vie for higher offices in the country. The group wondered why some elements are bent on undermining female aspirants who are making their marks in public service stressing that with such attitude the country may find it difficult to reach its optimum potentials.
The coalition said it will not relent in drumming support for President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan?s second term bid due to his numerous achievements. The group said the achievements recorded by President Jonathan are highly remarkable and sustainable. It said what is important is for Nigerians to rally round Mr. President and giving him the highest level of supports. ?The Transformation Agenda is a blueprint to making Nigeria?s economy strong globally. We cannot miss such opportunity by not giving him the support he needs to take our beloved country to greater heights in the comity of nations? the group posited.
The Coalition of Democrats (CoD) said it will support the aspiration of Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Olejeme for governor of Delta State come 2015. ?Mrs. Olejeme remains the candidate to beat as far as the Delta Guber is concerned. She has the popularity and appeal which the people of Delta State needs? ?Mrs. Olejeme is a highly philanthropic and comapassionate person who has touched the lives of many especially the widows,youths as well as the less privileged. She has also made her mark at the Nigerian Social Insurance Trust Fund where she is the Chairperson of the board? the Coalition said. It warned of any attempt to impose candidates that will not be acceptable to the people of Delta state stressing that ?Delta state has grown above such atavistic politics?
