Brittni Mealy, the former girlfriend of Atlanta rapper Future, has filed a court motion seeking to have him jailed over his alleged failure to comply with a 2023 court order involving their 12-year-old son, Prince.

Court documents filed in Fulton County Superior Court in Georgia and obtained by TMZ show Mealy alleges the rapper, whose legal name is Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, has wilfully refused to secure a USD 500,000 life insurance policy naming her as trustee for Prince, as required by a judge’s directive from three years ago.

Mealy is asking the court to hold Future in contempt and order his incarceration until the policy is put in place. Future has not filed a response to the motion. Under court rules he has 30 days from the date of service to answer, and if he fails to do so, the judge could grant Mealy’s request by default.

The 2023 order that forms the basis of the contempt petition also raised Future’s monthly child support payments for Prince from USD 3,000 to USD 5,000, and included a clause requiring him to pay for the child’s private school tuition alongside the life insurance obligation.

A Fulton County judge is expected to schedule a hearing within 60 days. Future can avoid incarceration by producing proof of a valid policy or by negotiating a new arrangement with Mealy before that date.

The latest legal action adds to a wider run of court matters for the rapper, who is separately named in a copyright dispute filed by Rodney-O over royalties, among other pending legal matters. Future and Mealy, who dated in the early 2010s, have had a long-running and contentious co-parenting relationship marked by several court disputes over financial responsibilities.
