The Electricity Company of Ghana and Ghana Grid Company have announced planned maintenance works across five regions on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, causing temporary power outages in dozens of communities throughout the day.
The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) and Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) issued separate notices advising residents and businesses to prepare for interruptions of varying durations depending on their location, saying the works are intended to improve electricity infrastructure and ensure more stable supply.
In the Accra East Region, the outage runs from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., affecting Dzen Ayor, Ability, Haatso Trotro Station, Agbogba Junction, 37 Military Hospital and nearby communities. The Accra West Region faces the same 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. window, with Broadcasting, New Bortianor, Adanseman, Cassava Farms, Mr. Obeng, Oshieyie and surrounding areas included.
In the Tema Region, power supply will be interrupted from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Communities affected include Sackey, Bediako, High Tension, Golf City, Bright Star School, Jericho, Roman Down, Underbridge Market, State School for the Deaf, Adjei Kodjo, Kanawu, Community 22, Michell Camp and adjoining areas.
The Central Region will experience outages from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., covering Apam Junction, Apam Township, Mumford and several Gomoa communities including Gomoa Dago, Gomoa Ajumako, Gomoa Akwakrom, Gomoa Obokrom, Gomoa Kumasi and Gomoa Koforidua.
In the Volta Region, GRIDCo will undertake emergency maintenance works at the Aflao Bulk Supply Point from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Communities affected include Denu, Aflao, Ave Towns, Hedzranawo, Havedzi, Kedzi, Adina, Agavedzi, Keta, Dzodze, Abor and parts of Akatsi, among others.
ECG and GRIDCo apologised for the inconvenience and appealed for public cooperation while engineers carry out the maintenance works.
