Dr Stephen Adjei, a finance and risk management professional, has announced his candidacy for treasurer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) USA branch.
He says his campaign will focus on financial accountability, transparency and the effective management of the branch’s resources.
Dr Adjei has more than 25 years of experience in financial and management accounting, corporate finance, investment banking and risk compliance, working across Ghana and the United States.
He began his career in Ghana as a district budget analyst with the Birim Central Municipal Assembly between 1998 and 2001, and later with the Akuapem North District Assembly from 2001 to 2004.
He moved to the United States in 2006, where he worked as a senior corporate staff accountant with Saint-Gobain in Massachusetts. In 2008, he joined Frito-Lay as a senior financial analyst before moving into investment banking.
From 2011 to 2017, he worked as a senior investment accountant at the Bank of New York Mellon in Westborough, Massachusetts.
In 2017, he returned to Ghana to serve as head of finance at the Ghana Investment Fund for Electronic Communications (GIFEC) in Accra. He also held roles as senior management accountant and financial controller.
During that period, he served on a number of committees, including the finance and administration sub-committee of the board of trustees, the budget review committee and the treasury management committee, which he chaired.
He says his work on the treasury management committee contributed to an increase in investment income, with portfolio returns rising from 90 million to 110 million Ghana cedis in 2019. The fund also recorded an average annual growth rate of at least 5% during that time.
Dr Adjei returned to the United States in 2022 and currently works as a senior compliance risk manager with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
He holds a PhD in financial management from Northcentral University, as well as an MBA in finance and economics and a bachelor’s degree in economic statistics. He also holds professional certifications in accounting, finance, information systems and risk management.
In a message to members, he said he was seeking both their support and their cooperation.
His campaign is guided by the motto, “Guarding Our Trust, Growing Our Branch”, which he says reflects a focus on responsible financial management.
He outlined priorities including transparency, financial management, efficiency and member participation.
Dr Adjei said he believes the NPP-USA branch can become more financially robust and effective.
