Hearts of Oak staged a spirited comeback to secure a 2-2 draw against Swedru All Blacks on their return to the Accra Sports Stadium in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) on Sunday, though their winless run has now stretched to five matches, leaving them six points off the summit of the table.

The visitors stunned the Phobians early, with Rudolf Mensah opening the scoring in the 22nd minute before Williams Dankwah doubled their advantage before the break, putting Swedru All Blacks in firm control at halftime.

Hearts, who were without captain and first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare due to international duty, struggled in the early exchanges. His replacement Solomon Agbasi was caught out in the build-up to the second goal, compounding the Phobians’ difficulties.

The home side responded strongly after the restart. Mawuli Wayo pulled one back before Frank Duku levelled with a simple finish following a poor back pass from the visitors. All Blacks had a big chance to restore their advantage at 2-1, but Mohammed Alhassan produced a crucial block to deny them a third goal.

Hearts’ return to the Accra Sports Stadium came after a temporary relocation to the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, which has been forced to close temporarily for renovation works. Coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani had spoken of targeting maximum points from the five remaining home fixtures to keep the Phobians in title contention.

Elsewhere in Matchday 27, Medeama SC reclaimed the top of the table following their results, while Dreams FC continued their impressive form with a dominant 3-0 win over Hohoe United. Young Apostles boosted their survival hopes with an emphatic 3-0 victory over Heart of Lions.
