Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has declared that his next musical chapter will be rooted entirely in African identity, saying he has achieved everything he set out to accomplish on the global stage and no longer has an interest in chasing Western validation or Grammy recognition.

Speaking on the Official UK Afrobeats Chart Show with host Eddie Kadi, Davido said: “This part of my career, I have performed everywhere, sold out every arena, I have been to three Grammys in the last three years. The music that is coming next is very Davido, it is very African. We have done it so I am not really looking to really do western sounds.”

The remarks carry considerable weight from an artist who has spent the better part of a decade navigating the crossover conversation, collaborating with major American and British acts, accumulating hundreds of millions of streams across global platforms, and attending three consecutive Grammy ceremonies. Having reached those milestones, Davido said he now intends to create on his own terms, for himself and for the continent that shaped him.

The singer also spoke about the depth of his following in South Africa, saying approximately 80 percent of the population is familiar with his work, a reception he attributes to consistent collaborations with local artists and a number one radio record in a market he noted is typically dominated by American and South African acts.

The career pivot coincides with the announcement of his first self-produced festival, Davido and Friends Fest, set for Crystal Palace Bowl in London on August 14, 2026, a move that signals both confidence and creative autonomy at a new stage of his career.

No release date or title has been confirmed for his forthcoming project, but anticipation is already building among fans across the continent.
