The management of the Ghana Cocoa Board (Cocobod) has warned engineers working on the Obuasi Junction road in the Ashanti region they will terminate their contract if they do not complete the project on time.

Cocobod registered its displeasure at the lackadaisical attitude of the engineers working on the road which goes through Dunkwa-Ayanfori under a central cocoa road construction project.

According to the management, full payment of GH¢59.8 million was awarded to Ussuya Ghana Limited last year to construct the 24-kilometer road.

The chief executive of Cocobod, Dr. Stephen Opuni, said the project has not been executed as expected.

“You were supposed to do about 70% of the project by now… we have already given you two warning letters and we are going to give you the third and final warning letter, if you do not make up for the 30% deficit, I will proceed to terminate the contract”.

Meanwhile, the Ashanti regional highways director Joseph Atsu Agyamake has justified why the project is behind time.

“Generally, we had challenges of relocation of water main lines in Dunkwa township, we also had problems with securing aggregates to produce mechanically stabilized base and obtaining the gravels for the work and this accounted largely for the delay”.
