The Conference of the Nigerian Political Parties (CNPP) has called for
the immediate cancellation of 506,000 votes of November 16th 2013
gubernatorial election, insisting that
it is an oversight on the part of the Independent National Electoral Commission
Chairman Professor Attahiru Jega.
Also the Anambra State chairman of the National Youth Council of
Nigeria (NYCN) has called for the resignation of the national chairman
of INEC, Prof Attahiru Jega insisting that he betrayed the electorate
in the state and the nation.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary of (CNPP)
Mr. Osita Okechukwu and the Director of CNPP in the United States of
America (USA) Mr. Tony Ike Isama, the organization noted that over
506,000 votes should be cancelled, as it is an oversight on the part
of the commission INEC to cancel only 113, 113 votes and close their
eyes
to the 174,000 votes in Idemili North, where voting did not place.
More so, more than
200,000 manipulated votes spread across Anambra West and East, Awka North and
South, Ihiala and other uncountable polling units, as evidence by reports of
local and international observers.
According to them, “We were perplexed that uptill?this Monday?morning
when the gross irregularity were clearly made public by the Returning
Officer, Professor James Okuoke resulting in the declaration of the
result as inconclusive and cancellation of 113, 113 votes,
Professor Jega behaving like a hired hand on a television interview on
Sunday morning defending their failures and lapses.
“Jega to our consternation was nervously harping on only 65 polling
units in Obosi Electoral
Ward, even when by his own admission the INEC Electoral Officer whom
he claimed had been arrested had messed up the electoral process in
the entire Idemili North LGA with 306 polling units and total
registered voters of about 174,000claiming that he cannot cancel the
total election because of one Electoral Officers malfeasance.
The Youth Council and signed by its Acting Chairman Comrade Chibuzor
Ekwenye the body prayed for Immediate and total cancelation of the
governorship election that was suppose to take place in Anambra on
16th day of November, 2013 as it is far from what we can call
election.
According to the youth body, “We also, unequivocally call fro the
immediate resignation of Prof. Attahiru Jega as INEC chairman as his
integrity is not just in doubt, but he has also lost the control of
INEC and now that he cannot conduct free, fair and credible election
in Anambra State alone, one wonders what will happen in 2015 general elections.
