Johnson Asiedu Nketia, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on Ghanaians to wear their Black Stars jerseys in a show of solidarity as the national team prepares to play two key pre-tournament friendly matches in Europe this week.

The call, made on Wednesday, March 26, comes with the Black Stars facing Austria in Vienna today, Friday, March 27, 2026, and Germany in Stuttgart on Monday, March 30, 2026, as part of their final preparations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The matches take on added significance as the team prepares to debut Puma’s newly released World Cup kits, which went on sale on March 24 after a high-profile global launch in Brooklyn, New York. The kit launch featured football legend Asamoah Gyan as Ghana’s representative, with the event blending football, live music, and cultural celebration.

The home kit features a predominantly white base with gold-yellow accents and intricate patterns inspired by traditional Ghanaian art and Adinkra symbols, while the away strip adopts a bold golden-yellow design paying homage to Ghana’s historic Gold Coast identity. Public reaction to the designs has been mixed, with some fans praising the cultural storytelling and others questioning the execution.

Ghana are drawn in Group L of the 2026 World Cup, where they will face Panama on June 17, England on June 23, and Croatia on June 27. The tournament, co-hosted by the United States (US), Canada, and Mexico, will mark Ghana’s fifth World Cup appearance.

Coach Otto Addo’s squad for the European friendlies includes four players on their first senior Ghana Football Association (GFA) call-up, adding further anticipation to both fixtures as the team builds cohesion ahead of the summer tournament.
