The renovation forced Lobi Stars FC to play its league matches outside Benue

The Astro turf will soon be laid at the main bowl of the Aper Aku Stadium, Aondowase Chia, the Benue State Commissioner for Sports, said on Saturday.

Chia, who was speaking at a media briefing on the activities of the State Ministry of Sports, said the contract for the laying of the turf at the stadium was awarded in 2010 but the project had not been completed due to the difficulties in shipping the equipment.

The commissioner said the contractor,  Monimichelle Sports Management, had started bringing the equipment to site from Europe.

Chia said the pitch had been excavated, while the  actual laying of the turf would soon commence.

The renovation of the stadium had compelled the Makurdi-based Lobi Stars FC, to play its league matches outside the state.
