The Burkinabe nationals from various parts of the country, were driven from the Malian border in four different buses hired by Burkina Faso’s social action ministry.
A source from the social action ministry said some of those repatriated were working as small scale gold miners while others were small scale traders.
Some of them who were interviewed said they were violently handled by Guinean security officers when they had been detained in “deplorable” conditions.
On Dec. 3, Burkina Faso government deplored the arrest and detention in military prisons of 120 of its citizens living in Guinea.
Sources said Burkinabe citizens had been detained at a military camp in Siguiri, 700 km northeast of Guinean capital, Conakry.
However, the same source did not confirm whether the people detained at the military camp were those repatriated on Sunday.
In a statement, Burkina Faso government explained that talks were underway with Guinean authorities to have Burkinabe citizens freed so that they can “continue with their activities peacefully in the country.” Enditem
