As part of efforts geared towards ensuring a clean Ghana, Zoom Alliance, in collaboration with the security agencies, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development last week Friday embarked on a massive clean-up exercise in the Greater Accra Region.

The exercise took off around 6:00 A.M., and it began at Sukura, a suburb of Accra.

It was monitored by the Minister for Local Government and Rural Development, Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, who was accompanied by a team of journalists.

At Sakura, workers of Zoom Alliance were seen desilting gutters along the streets; others also swept the streets.

From Sukura, the team went to Chorkor. And in all these places Mr. Ofosu Ampofo demonstrated exemplary leadership by actively participating in the exercise.

In his Wellington boots, the minister desilted gutters in all these areas.

The team rounded its tour at the Agbogbloshie Market. And here Fire Service personnel used fire engines to wash the gutters many of which were choked.

There were also pay loaders and tipper trucks on stand-by to collect the refuse for disposal.

Briefing the media after the exercise, Mr. Ofosu Ampofo intimated that cleaning ?our environs is a shared responsibility.?

Against this background, he urged residents in Accra and the entire country to ensure that they ?constantly? clean their environs.

He gave the assurance that government will not relent in its efforts to rid the country of filth.

?I am also urging our security agencies to pay particular attention to residents with the habit of dumping refuse into gutters and littering about,? Mr. Ofosu Ampofo charged the security agencies.
