A family reconciliation meeting in Zimbabwe turned fatal on April 26 after a man allegedly stabbed his wife to death in front of relatives following a suggestion that the couple divorce, according to police.
The suspect, Mukhosi Shadreck Mulaudzi Muthavhatsindi, 56, from Malala village, is accused of killing his wife following a heated dispute during efforts by both families to resolve long-standing marital issues. A traditional intermediary known as a Munyai or Idombo was present to help facilitate discussions between the two families.
The couple had been living in South Africa before returning to Zimbabwe on April 24, 2026. Upon arrival, the two separated, with the suspect going to his home in Malala village while his wife stayed with relatives in Matshiloni.
Officer Commanding Beitbridge District, Chief Superintendent Mesuli Ncube of the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), said the situation deteriorated when the wife’s family proposed ending the marriage. “During deliberations, the wife’s relatives suggested that the couple should settle for a divorce since they had failed to reach an amicable agreement over a longer period. This did not go down well with the suspect and an argument ensued.”
Police say the suspect allegedly became aggressive, rose from his seat and pursued his wife as she attempted to flee. She hid behind one of the houses at the homestead, but he caught up with her and stabbed her once on the left side of the chest. She screamed before collapsing and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, the suspect attempted to flee but was pursued and apprehended by members of the public before being handed over to police. He is currently in custody and is expected to appear in court soon. The victim’s body has been taken for a post-mortem examination. The case remains under investigation.
