The youth for progressive governance would want to break its silence on what has come to be known as Woyome scandal in Ghanaian political history. We members of the progressive youth movement entreat the government to do whatever it can to unravel the mystery surrounding the payment of 600million Ghana Cedis judgment debt captured in the Auditor General’s 2010 report particularly the 51.2m Ghana cedis paid to Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyeme.
In connection with the above, we want to condemn the Deputy Attorney General for openly declaring on Joy Fm on 19th December, 2011 and I quote ?government has a bad case? what kind of debate are you going to mount? Is it every case that has to be defended?? According to EOCO report, there were enough grounds to defend the state but this was not done. The EOCO report goes on to state that ?in the files at the AG’s department could be found a lot of evidence which indicated clearly that at least, Mr. Woyome could not establish his case?. The question we want to ask at this moment is that did Mr. Barton Oduro not read the documents in his office before coming out to speak on such a sensitive and controversial issue.
The youth for progressive governance finds the involvement and pronouncement of Hon. Barton Oduro, the deputy Attorney General and MP for Cape Coast Constituency rather unfortunate and highly undeserving of a person of such enviable position.
We are by this press release calling on the President to dismiss Mr. Barton Oduro as a matter of urgency for what we see as a negligence of duty.
We are also asking Mr. Barton Oduro to do what all honorable men do by rendering an unqualified apology to the people of Cape Coast and Ghanaians in general for exhibiting such a gargantuan incompetence. This is unbecoming of a government legal advisor and a member of parliament for our regional capital ? Cape Coast
Moreover, the youth of progressive governance is urging Hon. Ama Benyiwa Doe who is the central regional minister to come out and render an unqualified apology to the good people of the central region for claiming that people of central region are only good at performing concert and comedy.
