Casual workers engaged for the construction of the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange have stopped working in protest against the Brazilian construction firm, over poor remuneration and unfair conditions of service.

The local workers on Monday wore red arm bands to drum home their demands, an action that worsened the already congested area.
According to the workers, their salaries have not been increased since the commencement of the project in 2013. They are also calling for the termination of the HR recruitment agency that engaged their services.
The workers say they want to deal directly with Brazilian company, M/S Queiroz Galvao Constucao, following what they describe as ?cheating? on the part of the HR firm which they accused of cutting down their salary of GHC 150, and paying them a mere GHC 70.
The demonstrators are also livid about the non-payment of allowances. The workers are also concerned about their health and safety since according to them, the working dusty environment warrants a proper health allowance.
Leadership of the demonstrators say they will continue the demonstration until a positive response reaches them from the construction company or government.
The 74.88 million Euro project Is being jointly financed by the Government of Ghana and the Government of Brazil. It is about 80 percent complete and has been hailed by commuters who use the route.
