The civil servants are protesting the non-implementation of the new minimum wage
Civil Servants in Kebbi State, on Wednesday, commenced an indefinite strike to protest the non-payment of the N18,000 National Minimum Wage by the state government.
Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress in the state, Sadiq Kaoje, told journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday that the strike was until further notice.
?The NLC have agreed to resume the suspended strike in the interest of the state and welfare of workers,? Kaoje said.
He appealed to workers to remain at home and be law abiding, stressing that the union would remain open to further dialogue with the state government over the matter.
Kaoje commended the state House of Assembly, the Chief Judge, Justice Umar Abdullahi and other prominent citizens of the state for intervening in the matter.
The state government had offered workers from Grade Level 9 between N5,000 and N7,000 on their current salaries, while those on grade levels 01 to 08 would be paid 100 percent of the minimum wage; however, the NLC demanded full implementation for all.
