A 28-year-old man died in his father’s arms after a woman stabbed him in the neck as he slept in his Massapequa, New York, home early Monday, police said.
Kristin Sculley, 22, of Massapequa, pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder on Tuesday, June 2, and a judge ordered her held without bail, authorities said.
Family and friends identified the victim as Robert Carragher Jr., known to many as Bobby. Police described Sculley as an acquaintance who had known him for several years.
Investigators said the two had arranged to meet and got together at a bar before returning to the basement apartment Carragher shared with his parents. Sculley grew angry during the night and stabbed him while he slept, police said.
Officers reached the Beaumont Avenue home around 1:30 a.m. Monday, June 1, after the wounded man climbed the stairs screaming for help. His parents tried to stop the bleeding in the kitchen before he became unresponsive, and a police medic pronounced him dead.
“He died in his father’s arms,” Nassau County Police Detective Lieutenant George Darienzo said.
Police later found Sculley hiding in the lower level of the home with a pocket knife they believe was the weapon. Detectives have not stated a motive and said there were signs of possible drug use that night, though they found no drugs in the home.
