An aspirant seeking to represent Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon Olayinka Oladimeji Segelu has said if given the mandate, he will deploy his over10 years of experience as a legislative aide and knowledge of the workings of the National Assembly to bring meaningful development and desired federal presence to the constituency.

Hon. Olayinka Segelu stated this while addressing a large crowd comprised of party leaders and supporters at a special prayer session for his late father which also marked his official declaration of intention to contest the February 2015 National Assembly Election.

He said after observing the trend of things over the years and having noticed that the people of the constituency are not being properly represented, he believes that his experience and understanding of the terrain mark him out as the most capable person to fill the gap and be the voice of his people to get them what they truly deserve from the federal government of Nigeria. He promised not to dash their hope if given the opportunity to serve, adding that every household in Akinyele/Lagelu know his roots, pedigree and antecedents.

Hon. Segelu who is currently an aide to Senator Nurudeen Abatemi-Usman, however, enjoined the people not to fall prey to the antics of aspirants, claiming to have been anointed by Abuja. He said “there is no anointed candidate as the party has repeatedly given the assurance that people will be allowed to elect their own leaders.”

In their separate addresses at the event, Chairman of PDP in Akinyele, Chief Olawuwo Amusan, his counterpart in Lagelu, Ologbe, other party leaders including Dr Solomon Oladiti, a former commissioner in Oyo State, Chief Kehinde Fabunmi, Chief Ayobami and a host of others vouched for the pedigree and integrity of Olayinka Segelu, assuring the people that he will live up to the good name of his late father, Hon Olusegun Oladimeji Segelu, who worked hard for the development of Akinyele/ Lagelu Federal Constituency.

A close associate of the late Hon Oladimeji Segelu and two time Chairman of Ido Local Government, Mallam Yusuf described the late Hon Oladimeji Segelu as a consummate and consistent politician, who remained undaunted even when his electoral victory was annulled by Former Head of State, General Sanni Abacha but carried on until he was elected into the House of Representatives in 2007 but was assassinated the same year.

Mallam Yusuf admonished politicians to emulate the virtues of the slain federal lawmaker by always using political powers and position to make positive impact in the lives of the people they serve, a legacy which the late Segelu left behind and which his son, Olayinka Segelu has already imbibed and has made him the choice of the people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency in the forthcoming election into the House of Representatives. He called on Party leaders to rally round the younger Segelu to fulfill the dreams of his late father.
