A total of 75 widows and widowers have been presented with assorted items by the Gomoa Brofo Widows Association, a Non ? Governmental Organization (NGO) based at Kasoa at a colourful ceremony at Brofo in the Gomoa West District.

The donation coincided with the Annual Akwambo Festival of the chiefs and people in the area.
Addressing the beneficiaries, Mrs. Vivian Arhin, Director of the NGO, and wife of the chief of Gomoa Brofo, Nana Gyan Ansaful the third, said some widows were living in very deplorable states and needed assistance.
She pointed out that apart from loneliness which could easily kill widows, it was extremely difficult for them to make ends meet.
The Director said research had also shown that due to the sudden deaths of their husbands, most widows found it difficult to cater for their children?s education.
She made a passionate appeal to corporate bodies, companies, organizations, donor agencies and others, to come to the aid of the Association, in order to cover more beneficiaries in the district.
The Director disclosed that next year the Association would target about 500 widows and widowers in the area.
Mr. Rockson Asmah, Chief Patron of the NGO, said the organization had started awarding scholarships to brilliant but needy students from Gomoa Brofo.
Mr. Asmah who is also the Chief Executive Officer(ECO) of the Biofil Toilet Digester at the 21st Century Company at the Millennium City in Kasoa, said about 50 students would be sponsored in the next academic year which begins in September.
He indicated that the scholarship scheme would be extended to other towns, since education held the key to success.
The Chief Patron expressed concern about the high rate of teenage pregnancy among school girls in the Gomoa West District.
He called on the Gomoa Akyempim and Ajumako Traditional Councils to use their bye- laws to address the problem.
Mr. Nkrumah Amoah, aspiring Assemblyman and former Assembly man for Gomoa Brofo, appealed to the people to renew his mandate by voting massively for him in the up-coming district level elections.
This, he said, would help him to continue with developmental projects he started four years ago.
He added his voice to the numerous appeals to the President and the Central Regional Minister, to use their good offices to rehabilitate the road from Kyiren- Nkwanta to Gomoa Brofo, to facilitate movement of goods and services.
