Ahead of the Okigwe senatorial elections 2015, a major contender and the sole aspirant of the ruling, All Progressive Congress (APC), the Speaker Imo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon Benjamin Uwajumogu, has urged the people of the zone to ensure that only candidates who would contribute meaningfully to their economic development and welfare were voted into the red chambers of the National Assembly, in the forth coming elections.
He said: ?? you should be mindful of your votes as aspirants come to you to seek your votes. You are advised to cast your votes for experienced and credible candidates that will not forget you after the election and equally point on the achievement he or she recorded while in office.

The Speaker who gave the advice recently, when he stormed the party?s state secretariat in Owerri, the Imo state capital, with a huge crowd of supporters, said: ?? He has developed a blueprint for the zone, to develop the six local governments that make up the zone on even basis??.
He said that, the programmes, laws and motions initiated by the present administration, which his blueprint improved on, are programmes that will guarantee the future of Okigwe zone, as well as develop the zone at par with other zones if supported by the people.
While stressing the need for Okigwe zonal people to key into the project of extending the lank mark initiatives of the current administration, beyond its lifespan, in the interest of the masses, maintained that the policies and laws made by the leadership of the current administration for the general well-being of Okigwe people, remained the future livewire of the zone that could be depended on to create jobs, generate revenue and provide better living conditions for the people.
Explaining, he insisted that the current administration?s policies on free and quality education, rural road network, new schools in every electoral ward, new general hospitals, new skill acquisition centres, provision of shelter and basic amenities for the poorest of the poor, urbanization and beautification of Okigwe main town, creation of satellite cities, construction of markets, palm tree plantation and other agricultural based initiatives, the attraction of an over six thousand Housing estate to Okigwe Zone, the resuscitation of moribund industries to create employment, attraction of a polytechnic and two other institutions of higher learning for the zone and many other programmes, still remains germane for another four years, even as he pleaded on the people to allow those who envisioned the model for the zone to stay in power and deliver the dividends to the people.
He promised as a key figure in the current administration to pursue with vigor the completion of all the outlined projects, as well as attract federal projects, if elected
