THE NEW Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Volta region has held primaries to select parliamentary candidates for the four newly created constituencies in the region.

These constituencies include Adaklu, Akatsi North, Kpando and Krachi Nchumuru and according to NPP Regional Chairman, Kenwuud Nuworsu, the primaries were ?as usual peaceful and smooth as is the character of the NPP.?

A rerun was however held on Monday for the Krachi Nchumuru constituency since the outcome of the election there was a tie, he said.

The tie has now been broken after Tharkum Taylor got 146 votes to beat his closest contender, Kakateche Innocent who had 6 votes.

In Adaklu, it was all cheers when a 52 year old businessman bagged 87 votes to become the parliamentary candidate for the area.

Justice Jowawa Aklamanu, who was carried shoulder high by his supporters even before being declared the winner, beat his two opponents by 46.08% votes.

He was followed by Victus Dzareh Dzah, a 54 year old marketing executive who bagged 77 votes representing 40.47%.

Josephine Akoto Boateng, an entrepreneur who trailed the two managed to get 22 votes, representing 11.74% while 1.71% of the ballots were rejected.

Mrs. Boateng, whom most of the delegates claimed was not well known in the constituency, protested against the results and primaries supervised by the Electoral Commission.

She claimed some of the delegates without photo IDs were allowed to vote and said she would petition the party hierarchy at the national level over the matter.

Regional NPP Nasara Coordinator, Alhaji Issah Yakubu who represented the regional chairman welcomed the petition saying ?we believe in democracy and fair play.?

He was optimistic that the case would be given the necessary attention for understanding and peace to prevail.

At Akatsi North, Prince Sodoke Amuzu won the slot by acclamation while in Kpando, Theresa Tettey had 143 votes to beat her male contender, Elvis Janpoh who had 90 votes. Two ballots were rejected in that election.
