It is 15minutes past 8 in the morning and my Vodafone network is off.?
It has been off since 12mid night. And not just Vodafone, a colleague on another network just complained about his network.
On Joy fm this morning, 3rd of June, 2014, an energy expert and former CEO of VRA, Dr. Charles Wereko Brobbey are discussing the power crisis which has being on going for close to 3 months.
I think we have overlooked the growing menace of these mobile networks in this country maybe we don’t have enough power in our homes to fully charge our mobile phones to power? to know well the growing charges that has been unleashed on users.
MTN Ghana for sometime has devised this nuisance of truncating calls when one hits a minute call left of a balance.
As annoying as this is, sister networks like TIGO, Vodafone bombards mobile users with annoying automated short messages of no relevance to majority of their subscribers.
Airtel Ghana has gone further to use voice automation in harassing customers. If you don’t know how annoying this is, get into a typical ‘broke’ mode expecting a very important call about? money only to see a 06060 number.
It is worse when you have a fight with a girlfriend and you even expecting her call.
What got me more frustrated is the increase in SMS charges by MTN. MTN used to charge 10GP for SMS to the United States, just 2 weeks ago I realised my 2GHC credit which could get me 20 SMS now sends half the initial count.
As sweet and beautiful these messages by the networks are, from Red to Green, I see it is half the case.
Bundles runs up, air time dries quickly.
But if none of these gets to you as they get to me, get home one day and have an aunt, grand mother complain about the many useless messages she has got during the week for unknowingly replying to a message she did not quite understand on her phone and then telling you to go ahead and delete all these messages for her.
It is crazy that we don’t have a very viable agency or body in Ghana that puts these Mobile networks in check.
The very few consumer groups move from these very service providers with proposals take huge sums of money and leave consumers with a cosmetic talking face.
Ghana must work, MTN, Vodafone, Airtel in the phase of growing call for wider affordable internet coverage, the networks are rather ripping consumers off but because mobile usage has become so part of consumers, there is a difficulty in knowing which network is really charging the real tariff and its equivalent to real cash.
