The US Embassy in Accra will suspend most routine consular services from July 20 to July 31 for scheduled facility maintenance, resuming normal operations on August 3.
In a notice issued Tuesday, the Embassy said walk-in notarial services and Consular Reports of Death Abroad will be unavailable throughout the maintenance window. Applicants who have already received email confirmation that a passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad is ready for collection can still pick up documents on Thursdays between 1:30pm and 3:00pm during the pause. “Adult passport renewals submitted via Embassy drop box will continue to be processed,” the Embassy said, directing applicants to its website for drop box instructions.
Emergency consular assistance for US citizens will continue uninterrupted throughout the closure, with those facing urgent situations advised to contact the Embassy’s duty officer at +233 (0) 30 274 1000. The Embassy has described this kind of scheduled pause as a periodic practice tied to facility upkeep rather than an unusual event, with routine services scaled back temporarily while emergency support stays fully available.
The Embassy has urged travellers, US citizens and anyone with pending consular matters to arrange their documentation and travel plans before the suspension takes effect on July 20, and to check its website for updates as normal operations resume on August 3.
