The United Kingdom’s High Commissioner to Ghana, Mr. Jon Benjamin has implied in a publicly shared tweet that the newly opened Kwame Nkrumah interchange is nothing exceptional, based on his travel experience.
When a Twitter user, @ZimmAconcept mentioned the commissioner in their tweet that said they were looking forward to knowing Mr. Benjamin’s impression about the new flyover, the response was perhaps not what many celebrants (of the latest infrastructure) would have expected.
In related news by rather underwhelmed observers, commentary by award winning Ghanaian journalist, Manasseh Azure on the flyover since its opening has mainly been about Ghanaians’ ability to over play small successes and underplay major problems the country faces.
There have been mixed reactions to the new grand infrastructure that cost the country over Ghc300m (in partnership with the Brazilian government).
In a related development, another award winning Ghanaian journalist, Justice Adoboe wrote that, any idiot can rant.
Do you realise that none of the bridges in Ghana, from the days of Kwame Nkrumah has attracted so much social, political and media attention, with so much time devoted to writting features and social commentary on them, as the Kwame Nkrumah interchange is receiving?
Ghanaians home and abroad are making their voices heard and their words read. It tells you one thing, a huge impact has been made and many of the negative comments are just aimed at diminishing the impact of the project in the eyes of Ghanaians. Show me one of the bridges in the past that wasn’t built with a loan. But we were told by Haruna Esseku that for the Tetteh Quarshie bridge the original interchange which was designed had to be altered so that a ruling party could reserve some of the money allocated for their 2004 re – election campaign.
But for that alleged crooked and foolish act the Tetteh Quarshie interchange would have been the biggest in Ghana.
One thing is however abundantly clear; There are those who make history and there are those who chronicle them. Nipa y’ade3 a, )s3 ayeyi; wo renyi n’ay3 a mens3i ne din, Mon horo no, oo, Mon horo no, wooooo! I choose the side of the history maker.
Any idiot can bark, I lie?
